Reminder: Matt Smith on Craig Ferguson tonight
Don’t forget to set your DVR—or take a nap and bank some sleep—as Matt Smith is a scheduled guest on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson tonight (Nov. 16) on CBS. Or, depending on where you get your CBS feed piped in via cable, it might be very, very, very early on Nov. 17.
Although there were some mixed signals at first as to whether Smith was going to actually appear, at last report Ferguson himself had announced via Twitter that Smith - and a Dalek - were scheduled to appear in what Ferguson as dubbed a “Doctor Who Special” (the show’s official website also confirms this). The timing makes sense as Smith is headed to a secret filming location in Utah on Wednesday to begin work on the first episodes of Season 6, marking the first time filming for Doctor Who has taken place in the US with the main cast.
Matt Smith becomes the first current Doctor to ever appear on a major US network late-night talk show. The only other known example was an appearance by Tom Baker in 1972, two years before he became the Doctor, on The Tonight Show, presumably to promote his appearance as Rasputin in Nicholas and Alexandra.
Since the episode is scheduled to be taped around 3 PM Los Angeles time, you might be able to catch a preview of it during CBS’ prime time shows. Unfortunately, however, the show’s official website is geofenced so you can’t access its videoclips from Canada.
Edited (by Graeme) to add: But you can usually find it on YouTube the next day on Craig Ferguson’s YouTube channel!
