Just got done watching The Christmas Invasion. That was awesome. Good job and good transition to the 10th Doctor.
I loved the “...very Arthur Dent” comment. I think the series is in good hands with Tennet. I was impressed that the CBC put it in a hour and a half time slot instead of trimming scenes to fit it in for an hour.
Still wondering how much it’s going to jump around for Series 2, with the Hockey playoffs underway. Feel pretty lucky that we are getting it as a major event here in Canada and not just on some fringe channel. It really does feel “special” when Doctor Who is on.
Once again I watched it with my family, including my 10 year old daughter…she gave it a thumbs up and was happy with the new Doctor. She was worried as the 9th was HER Doctor and wasn’t really sure about the change. We watched the Children In Need special and that helped her get ready for the change. Too bad that CBC didn’t put that at the beginning, as average fans would not have seen that scene. They would have had time, as they had 15 minutes for filler to the bottom of the hour.
Looking forward to Series 2, er.. 28 I mean.

I watched the Invasion last eve and it was terrific, loved Tennant, and look forward to the new season. I will miss Harriet Jones though as a friend of the Doctor as now she is “unfit for duty” as indicated at the last;oh well. All is right now with the universe now that Doctor Who is back, hope the new season shows up fairly soon. Pehaps CBC will also carry Torchwood with Captain Jack, he brought so much humour and adventure to season 1.

I think that the new doctor who is a wonderfull actor. he is allmost exactly like the other doctor who. He was wonderfull at saying “fantastic” David was a great actor in Harry potter and was even better in this one (even though he was asleep a lot.)
This is a lot comeing from a 13 year old but I think the way you made the wall were the christmas tree broke in looked like the trees out line was humerous. Billie was amazing in season one and was womderfull in the christmas invation.
She plays the part of Rose Tyler magnificantly.
The way the costums on the aliens look so real you htink that there realy is aliens on another planet.
And to the rest of the cast, you know how to be a great help with the translating of the alien language to the getting ready to jump of the houses.I hope that doctor who will stay on for 15 more seasons

It is amazing how mich the new Doctor Who series still looks and feels the same as the good parts of the old. Loved the Christmas Invasion - pitty we have to wait soo long for the second season to start. I was very excited to see the clips with Sarah Jane Smith and K9 - paying homage to the past yet still moving forward with the changing audience.

Brilliant. Absolutely wonderful. David Tennant is going to be fabulous as the Doctor. He’s a hefty helping of Tom Baker with a smidge of Chris Eccleston and some Peter Davison thrown in for good measure. That said, I think he’s certainly an original in the way he’s going to do things. He’s funny and light but can turn quite angry. “No second chances. I’m that sort of a man.”
Anyone else freeze frame and pick out all the past Doctor’s outfits in the wardrobe room at the end? They’re all there apparently. I’ve found a couple.
I watched the BBC transmitted version with no adverts in the middle but the BBC Wales Orchestra theme at the end had an announcer talking over most of it (as well as the 2006 preview stuff over top). Anyone hear a clear take of this? I’d love to find an mp3 or something of this version of the theme.
Very happy to see K9 and Sarah Jane Smith back this year. I think that’ll be the third episode of the new season, titled “School Reunion” if the Commentary track on the BBC website is correct. Roll on 2006 season!

Allan, you weren’t the only one exercised by a bit too much continuity-announcing. From another forum where I post:
There is a whole thread about it on Outpost Gallifrey. Apparently you can hear the new version of the ‘Middle Eight” announcer-free at http://www.dannystewart.com/doctorwho/themes or listen to it here http://www.dannystewart.com/doctorwho/themes/gold/middleeight.mp3
Hope that helps.

It was awesome. David Tennant is enjoyable. He’s not as good as Eccleston, but no one could ever be.

It’s a bit early for me to make *THAT* call…but I think David has the ability and the character has the potential to blow Ecc’s Doc away. I guess we’ll see how things go, but I have a good feeling about this one!

Thanks, saraquazel!
Actually, it’s very odd that I didn’t find this myself because Danny Stewart and I email back and forth quite a bit on whomix.trilete.net projects!
(I have a new version coming up soon
)
Cheers

Absolutely incredible! I’ve watched it 3 times already and I’m overjoyed with Tennant. He did a Tome Bakerism with the whole shush I was going to say something bit and the ” i’m busy big fella lines”. He feels like a conglomerate and yet something new.
I really loved the little digs at star wars and Lord of the rings.I was waiting for the NOOOOO or for the Sycorax to say I am your father! Too bad they couldn’t keep the jammies. Russell T is obviously a long time fan. We are in for a real treat my dears but when the heck does it start in canada?

>>but when the heck does it start in canada?
An official date has not been set for the UK other than “SPRING” (March has been mentioned by some sources). It is a fair bet that Doctor Who won’t hit Canadian airwaves until after hockey is over. Giving it a late start compared to the UK and last year’s CBC airing of series one. Due to the lack of hockey last year we Canucks were given the royal treatment with such a sweet airdate. We’re not so lucky this time. But on the other hand… we will have hockey!
Go Habs Go

Not that it’s the final word, but TV Guide XMas issue (w/ Desperate Housewives on the cover) has a little interview w/ Billie Piper in which the writer mentions off-handedly that Series 2 will premier in Canada in Fall of 06—that’s right, another 9 months at least! & you thought it was tough waiting for the XMas Invasion!
Posted by Jimmy on 12/29 at 07:23 PM
Oh yeah, almost forgot—Go Sens Go!
Posted by Jimmy on 12/29 at 07:24 PM
Fall? Hmmmm. That goes against what was said by certain people at the recent Bad Wolf event in Toronto. But then again..that too isn’t the final word! I really doubt that they’d wait until the fall when the could have a successful full and uninterupted run in the summer…unless they are worried about The World Cup. Which is huge and on my planned viewing schedule! Running it in the fall would again be an issue with hockey on the CBC. Although not as huge an issue as it would be during the playoffs. The first game this year was on September 18.
Posted by Rod on 12/29 at 07:46 PM
Running the series in the fall isn’t an issue at all with respect to Hockey. They only air Hockey on Saturday nights in the fall, Doctor Who was aired on either Tuesdays or Sundays, so I don’t see where the conflict would be. The conflict in the spring is that they air playoff hockey almost every night from Mid-April until early June. CBC is looking at running a very high-profile series starting in June & running through July & August, or starting in September and running through October & November, where they are likely to get higher ratings. As such, I wouldn’t be surprised if what TV Guide reported was true.
Oh, and Go Leafs Go!

Sunday! For some reason I thought it was aired on Saturdays on the Ceeb. Saturdays aways seemed more… Whooish. SO you are right… it could work in the fall. Which is too bad… as Summer would have been bad enuff!

It’s really great that we have the new series of Dr. Who. As with previous regenerations the new Doctor will soon become established and popular with all. On the negative side however it is truly astounding that the CBC doesn’t know when the rest of the series will air. What kind of program planning is that?
Posted by Frank Moore on 01/02 at 03:00 AM
Just because the CBC hasn’t announced when the next series doesn’t mean that they do not know. However, even if they haven’t decided their exact schedule for 6-9 months from now that’s hardly unusual for any tv network.

also, let’s not forget that while Dr. Who may be a ratings smash in the UK, it’s much more of a niche programming in Canada, so the Mothercorp isn’t in any rush to figure out what to do with it. I’m still thrilled it’s airing in Canada at all!
Posted by Jimmy on 01/05 at 04:52 PM
Surprisingly, or not… Doctor Who was anything but a niche program in Canada and on the CBC. Almost every episode topped the Canadian ratings chart for it’s timeslot falling behind American Idol, and the Amazing Race (juggernaut American shows aired on Canadian stations). For the CBC Doctor Who was one of their greatest successes in the period and now respect what the series did during it’s run, and will take that into account when airing series two (or so we hope). The shows sponsor (Volkswagon) were also reportedly quite impressed with the shows appeal, and success.

Doctor Who is *very* important to CBC. By CBC standards Series One was a big ratings success. With no hockey it was the number one rated show on CBC for the spring. The CBC is very interested in how to best market the next series.

The Christmas Invasion was pretty awesome. We London fans all enjoyed it. I was just wondering if anybody knows what the songs were that were played during the special? The first one was playing during the scene where Mickey was in the garage. The other song, the one I really liked and want to know who it was badly, was the song playing at the end when The Doctor is picking out his new outfit. Any help would be appreciated…
cheers

The song in the garage is Slade’s Merry Christmas.
