Doctor Who Advent Calendar - Day 7

Ever since 2005’s “The Christmas Invasion” Doctor Who fans have eagerly awaited the special Christmas-themed program and the BBC’s faithfully released Christmas trailers have helped whip the Whoniverse into a frenzy of speculation and anticipation.  Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and revisit those trailers that had us counting down the days.

In 2005 we had a new Doctor, Sycorax and homicidal Santas.  Talk about a “Christmas Invasion”.

Things lightened up a bit in 2006 with the fabulous Catherine Tate as “The Runaway Bride”, a giant spider and, yes, more homicidal Santas.

Nothing quite says “happy holidays” than a Christmas voyage on the Titanic - in space.  No matter, “The Voyage of the Damned” gave us disco angels and Kylie Minogue.  To 2007 we go - Allons-y!

2008 was a cruel year, teasing the fans with the idea of premature regeneration.  While David Morrissey would have made a fine Doctor, “The Next Doctor” trailer is all about Cybermen and A Lady In Red.

Christmas 2009 began the long goodbye with the first part of David Tennant’s departure arc “The End of Time”.  On the bright side, The Master is back!  Crazier than a bag of balloons but what’s new?

In 2010 we had a new Doctor, a new attitude and a slightly lower body count.  With bonus flying shark!  “A Christmas Carol” spun the tropes and gave us the Doctor as the Ghost of Christmas Past.  Delicious. Christmas

I don’t know about you but I’m counting the days until…....
