Doctor Who Advent Calendar - Day 1

Well, a boo and a hiss to the BBC website who has become so uptight and standardized their amazing online Advent(ure) Calendars has become a pale shadow of itself. I miss the olden days of really cool content and a wicked kick-ass homepage.

So what is a Doctor Who Blog supposed to do? I know. Try to do what they did.

Everyday between now and Christmas we’re going to post some interesting item from the world of Doctor Who as our virtual advent calendar. It will be a way for me to work off the backlog of stuff I saw on the internet during the past couple of months I’ve been off co-writing my Doctor Who episode guide, Who Is The Doctor, out next April and other contributors to the blog can add things that take their fancy.

Click on today’s piece to find out what treasure is inside…

First up we have this little gem that showed up on YouTube a month or so ago. At the wrap parties for the various seasons of Doctor Who, the cast and crew would make videos to entertain each other. For the golden wrap party, the one for the final mini-season of specials in 2009 which saw David Tennant, Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner leave, David Tennant, Catherine Tate and John Barrowman parodied the Victoria Wood song “The Ballad of Barry and Freda” using Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner and the story of how they brought back Doctor Who…featuring David Tennant as Russell, and Catherine Tate as Julie (a wickedly accurate impression I might add).

Come back tomorrow for another offering as we count down to The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe...

Great! David, Catherine & John looked like they were really enjoying themselves throughout the video. smile

I’m glad to see that you’re keeping up the tradition and can’t wait to see what gem you uncover for us tomorrowr.

I thought this was absolutely hilarious when I first saw it, and worth a look or two or three for anyone who hasn’t yet seen it.
Looking forward to whatever else you have coming up!

I love how Russell has a picture of Terry Nation and Julie has a picture of Verity Lambert. It’s remarkably well observant. (The jokes about Ben Cook and Skins are cute too)
