Doctor Who’s Top 5 Amusing Deaths

thechase.jpg

In it’s most recent issue Doctor Who Magazine has a lengthy article providing the top 100 deaths in Doctor Who’s history.  For the most part the deaths are subdivided by category (except for a “Top 5” of all time which I will not discuss here since it contains details of a story not yet broadcast on the CBC, to respect all you non-downloaders out there!), including a list of 5 “Amusing Deaths”. Outside of their #1 overall pick its the only category that I had any real difference of opinion in, so I present to you my personal top 5 most amusing deaths in Doctor Who’s history:

5. The really bad female extra in Destiny of the Daleks part 3 - not even the improved special effects option on the new DVD release can stop this one from hilariously pathetic. The extra in question practically jumps to her right after getting exterminated.
4. Leela’s first Janus Thorn victim in Face of Evil - I can’t help but find it amusing that she spreads the victim’s arms out to use him as a makeshift wall-sealant!
3. The Graff Vynda Ka in the Ribos Operation. There’s something quite amusing to hear the Doctor calmly count-down to the bomb he planted on him exploding, as well as hearing the Graff rants cut-off in mid-scream from the explosion.
2. The death of Dr. Jaeger in The Mutants - because it’s the second time in that story that the Doctor manages to trick him into keeping his eye (and face) close to a piece of machinery the Doctor knows (and has set ) to explode.
1. In The Chase episode 2, watch carefully and you’ll see William Hartnell virtually throwing an Aridian (possibly one in the photo above) into a Mire Beast. The funny part for me is that it is so wonderfully un-necessary as the Doctor was already on his way to safety!

DWM’s list just goes to show what sychophants they are. I did a quick count and of the 100 listed some 29 are from 3 years of the new series while only 71 are from first 26 years and the movie.

Absolutely insane!!

Their number one is completely bonkers. When I saw it I couldn’t believe it. That would get my nomination of the worst and most comedic of all time. Even if I were to take it seriously how could it compare in any way, shape or from to Adric? It can’t.

I guess DWM’s license is up for renewal soon. How else to explain?

Well, the new series is a better show.

Better than…?

The old show, duh.

So why is the new show better than the old show, John?

IMO the old show is better.  Better writing than RTD for one.  Yeah the new show has better special effects.  And the new show is better with the most horrible dalek story - Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks? I think not.  Prime example where the new series is not as good as the old.

@The President

You’re judging a whole 4 years on one story written by one of the worst guest writers on the show? Stupid.
