YouTubing It #22 (Series Five DVD Edition)

The Series Five Boxset is released tomorrow, but you can see some of the goodness on the set now. Here’s the “Meanwhile In The TARDIS” scenes. The first bridges the gap between The Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below:

And between Flesh and Stone and The Vampires of Venice:

Thanks for posting these missing pieces.

Both are quite fun, but one can probably see why they didn’t make it to broadcast: They show Amy learning about the Tardis and the Doctor, but its all stuff we (the viewers) already know (more or less). These scenes don’t really propel either their respective episodes, or the season’s story arc further forward.

Nice stuff to find on the Blu-ray/DVDs though.

When will mine arrive I wonder?

Andrew, these aren’t cut scenes. They were specially written by Steven Moffat and produced for the DVD.

Thanks Graeme. My mistake.
They weren’t deleted scenes, but were bonus afterthoughts!
So…
It’s still good to have on the DVD and they’re still of no import for the storytelling!  smile

BTW, Did anyone see Sherlock last night on PBS. FANTASTIC!

Shows how much I’ve been paying attention. I thought this wasn’t coming out until December over here, but I see it’s coming out tomorrow! (Though for some reason Amazon.ca lists it as coming out on Nov. 10, which has to be a mistake because that’s a Wednesday and DVDs/BDs always come out on Tuesday.

Great scenes, a lot of fun and a nice extra. Figures the TARDIS managed to omit all of the male companions from that little slideshow! raspberry

I must admit though, I’m disappointed that DWIN didn’t do a post on the Doctor Who: Series 4-The Specials soundtrack that was finally released in Canada today.  I’ve been trying to get info on it for a long time (I only figured out the release date when I stumbled across it on pre-order at Amazon.ca three days ago) and was hoping that you wonderful lads would’ve at least noted when it came out. smile

these are great, thanks for sharing!  i particularly appreciate the gandalf/bloke quandry: the writers must constantly ask themselves which one the doctor is…

Re:Pharaoh

Is the soundtrack actually available in stores, though. I’ve never seen one in an HMV or wherever. I usually end up ordering from Amazon—and often Amazon UK at that.

I love the two Meanwhile scenes. I waited till I got the Blu-ray and I thought they were great. Love the slide show!

I just did a “frame by frame” of the slide slow - looks like whoever compiled it (meaning, by extension, the Doctor!) had a particular thing for not only Leela but Romana I as well! I wonder if anyone will try and make the various publicity photos of the companions (which most of these appear to be) part of the canon, suggesting the Doctor took them?

Re: Alex

As far as I know I’ve never seen it in stores, but I honestly never go to music stores, perhaps it could be found in a specialty or independent store rather than the big chains.  I purchased mine off of iTunes Canada, since I don’t actually care about having a physical CD. If you purchase the whole album you get a nice (save one spelling mistake) digital booklet in PDF form.

I honestly don’t mean to sound at all demanding! smile I love this blog, I just thought since you guys keep us all awesomely up-to-date with the DVD releases (many of which I’ve never seen in stores around here) it might be nice to do soundtrack release posts, even if we can’t get the CD’s in local stores, for your readers who are interested in the music.

Re:Pharoah - I prefer physical CDs because I want to be able to still play them in 5 years, but fortunately even if they don’t show up in the shops, there are still plenty of options for getting the CDs, including Amazon and such. I’m planning on ordering both sets before Christmas (the Specials release and the Series 5 set).
