Eleventh Doctor featured in exclusive online story

Although the BBC’s official Doctor Who website continues to be a source of frustration to non-UK visitors when it comes to video and online games, since most are blocked to us non-licence fee-paying heathens, on the plus side we are able to enjoy the exclusive short stories that are posted from time to time, and the first Eleventh Doctor web-exclusive short story serial launched today.

The Night After Hallowe’en, by Mark B. Oliver, features the Eleventh Doctor in a tale that the BBC promises will pit our hero against a “nightmarish threat to humanity.”

A Prologue chapter setting the scene was uploaded today (Oct. 29), and the story proper is scheduled to begin on Monday, Nov. 1 and continue for five several more chapters before concluding on Nov. 5. Edit: I thought this would run five consecutive days, but this ended up not being the case.

Meanwhile, fans of The Sarah Jane Adventures also have an online bonus to enjoy that, once again, can be accessed from Canada. Return of the Krulius is a Flash-based comic with narration featuring the character of Rani (not that Rani!). You can view it on the Sarah Jane Academy website.

And for those who are just now going “Online short stories? What? What? WHAT?”, you can check stories featuring the Tenth Doctor in the Tennant-era archive of the official website (including the story that inspired “Blink”).

For completists, the Hallowe’en tale isn’t the first web-exclusive story featuring the Eleventh Doctor. For those who are able to play and complete the Amy’s History Hunt game, a PDF of a Paul Cornell short story called The War of Art is made available for download. And to promote the “Doctor Who Adventure Games”, you can go to this BBC page to download a PDF of what the BBC bills as a “mini-adventure” called Wish You Were Here, which is more a prologue to one of the games.

Finally, if you want a bit of extra Halloween fun, Doctor Who style, check out The Feast of the Stone, an ultra-rare Shalka Doctor short story that appeared on a special BBC website devoted to vampires that predates the DW revival but is surprisingly till online. It stands as the only official (BBC-sanctioned) follow-up release to ever feature the de-canonized version of the Doctor featured in Scream of the Shalka.
