The Gang’s all here!
Something worth celebrating, which we’ve not actually had for some time - that is, Doctor Who returning to filming with the same regular cast as it had the previous season. You have to go back over two decades now to Season 26 in 1989 when Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred did their second full season together for the last time this has happened. Here’s to more episodes with Matt, Karen and Arthur!

So with the new TV schedule are they also going to have a break in production when they are finished the first half of Series 6A then 6B or is it actually going to be Series 6 and then Series 7 but both in the same year?

It’s an actual risk they’re taking. The past regime realized quickly they got a bump in viewers at the start of the season because they wanted to see the new Doctor / companion and it gave something to hook the marketing onto. It will be interesting to see how doing it old school works. I suspect quite well, but it is a bit of risk.

Ryan: Moffat’s said in interviews it would be series six and seven, but I think we’ll see how that shapes up as they actually progress to filming.

On a related note, I just found out that the Sarah Jane production team actually filmed note only Series 4, but half of Series 5 this summer, with the second half to be filmed later. It’ll be interesting to see if DW follows in a similar fashion. I don’t think it’s a gamble, though, doing the split season. Torchwood did a 5-night miniseries for its third season and did extremely well. And in the UK viewers are used to short seasons (6 episode Red Dwarfs, for example). The only concern is how this will impact the BBC America and Space showings. They could decide to wait and show everything in one uninterrupted 13-weeks in the fall—which would make it tough for those of us trying to avoid spoilers!

I doubt SPACE would wait and delay showing the first half. I think from now on, or at least for the near future, Doctor Who in North America will not be far behind the UK broadcast. Now a question…I’m still a little confused from last season…Is Rory still an Auton?
