Kudos to Space…
...They showed Journey’s End complete and uncut in a 90 minute timeslot.
Unlike what happened last time when it aired on CBC.
You have to give Space credit. Aside from showing the Christmas specials out of sequence on a special weekend timeslot (which was fine for everything except The Christmas Invasion), they’ve been good to fans with the weeknight airing of Who.

Good on them. I agree showing the Christmas specials separately was a bit of a stumble (considering the first three were connected directly to the preceding seasons), but considering what we had to put up with from the CBC, Space seems to know what it’s doing. Makes me kind of wish they’d pick up the broadcasts of the classic series again. Also, I recently found out that the full, uncut versions of Doctor Who Confidential have been made available to PBS stations for their broadcasts of the first four seasons. I’d love to see Space pick those up one of these days. They wouldn’t even have to show them alongside the episodes - DWC could air on Saturday morning and people would watch it!

I agree completely - Space has been very very good to DW. I was even thinking they should have done promos for Journey’s End, advertising the fact it was the first ‘full’ broadcast of the episode in Canada! They fully deserve to blow their own horn whenever possible.

SPACE has once again proven that they are the right choice for DOCTOR WHO in Canada. I hope they have a long lasting relationship with the programme and hopefully will one day bring back the original series as well

I think Space know who their audience for Doctor Who is, and the trouble we’ve endured in the past. They have certainly proved themselves worthy of the acquisition of the show and providing viewers the show.
I agree with Alex, that the Christmas specials really should have been aired alongside the rest of the episodes, I can understand why they did so. Every fourteen episodes, they would have had to fit an episode into a 90-minute slot, thus prehaps shifting their schedule out of sync. However, they did make it known that the 2005-2008 Christmas episodes were being aired on consecutive Saturdays in the same time-slot, under the “Christmas in July” banner, which I thought worked well.
The episodes on the Website aired smoothly most of the time for me (a couple of hiccups, but their support team were quick to fix anything I found), and there was hardly any lag time waiting for the next part to stream.
I see that they’re reairing the episodes again, which I’m sure is great! At least if you missed an episode over the summer, there’s time to catch it again
Alex: I actually sat down and watched Confidential Cut Downs Series 1-3 in a weekend. I then started watching the corresponding episode after the DW episode. I’m a few episodes behind now, in fact, I only got around to watching Journey’s End today (and because I wasn’t sure if the full episode would be on Space, I watched the DVD version). Like you say, they don’t have to air in sync with the episodes, they are truly individual episodes.
Keep up the good work, Space. I’m sure that we here are only a minority of fans, but hopefully we speak for the majority of them!

If you want an interesting read, check out the discussion on this blog after the CBC aired its version of Journey’s End. Aside from the interesting guesses regarding the future of the show on Canadian TV, and those of us who announced we were going to start lobbying Space to air the show (I wonder how that turned out?), it’s also interesting to read contrary viewpoints from people who were convinced that the CBC was the only and best possible home for Doctor Who. Now that we’ve had the specials, Season 5, the uncut Journey’s End, and promise for more to come, I wonder if people’s opinion of the show going to Space has changed any?
I wonder if we shouldn’t start pushing for Space to pick up Sarah Jane Adventures and K-9 so that the “whole family” is on one channel?
