Doctors in the other guy’s clothes

It would seem that SPOILERS they’ve begun filming Matt Smith’s first story and shots of him wearing David Tennant’s outfit have begun and in honour of this we have pictures of Doctors in their predecessor’s outfits… [SPOILERS ahead]

When William Hartnell regenerated into Patrick Troughton (not that they called it regeneration then), the Doctor’s clothes, it would seem regenerated with him. But he kept the cloak he was wearing and was wearing his ring (before it dropped off from being too big to fit his finger).

With Troughton into Pertwee, we only get a brief glimpse of the Doctor in what we presume to be his second incarnation’s costume, though it appears to have grown with him…

By the time Pertwee regenerated into Tom Baker (and they call it regeneration by then), it’s established that the Doctor wears the clothes of his predecessor when he transforms. Sadly I can’t find a decent screengrab from Robot, but here’s the Doctor at least wearing his third incarnation’s coat…

image

Probably the most shocking regeneration was Tom Baker into Peter Davison, not least of which because it’s so startling to see someone as young (and straight-haired) as Peter Davison in Tom Baker’s costume (note, the Doctor’s boots have regenerate into shoes…)

And here’s Colin Baker in Peter Davison’s outfit. They had to, in actuality, let out the seat of Davison’s trousers so Baker could fit in them!

When Sylvester McCoy put on his predecessor’s costume, it fit him like a tent…

The Seventh Doctor was wearing a shroud when he regenerated into Paul McGann. And the Eighth Doctor’s regeneration happened offscreen. But we saw the Tenth Doctor, David Tennant, act out a scene in Christopher Eccleston’s costume, which similarly seems big on him…

And now (still time to look away)...

I’m having a huge problem with him wearing Tennant’s trousers.  That’s all I’ll say for now!

Now we know what David could be wearing in his final episode. So, does the Doctor regenerate in present day earth? Presuambly without any of his recent companions?

With photos of Matt popping up, it just makes the regeneration and change almost final. *sob* Must remind myself, David is still the Doctor for the time being, he’s still my Doctor, and hopefully he won’t be regenerating on screen tomorrow *sob*  I mean I have nothing against Matt Smith, and I’m looking forward to seeing him, but… I realise that the BBC are going to want to shroud David’s final scenes in secrecy for as long as possible but it’s almost as they’ve forgotten that he’s still the Doctor for many of us!

Let me act like a typical male for a moment and say that I’m far more interested in what Amy’s wearing to be perfectly honest….  wink

Cool beans! I’ve always liked seeing the Doctor in his other incarnations’ clothes.

Looks like Amy’s outfit of choice involves short skirts - can’t complain. I wonder if the ice cream van has any significance—ie. the 11th Doctor’s treat of choice? At first I thought this was just a candid, but then I noticed the boom mike in place (sorry, my eyes didn’t immediately drift to the top of the photo)...
