I was checking out Space’s schedule last week, and there was no episode for July 3. There also wasn’t a 2006 episode listed for July 1, can’t see that it was done to avoid splitting up a two-part story as the episode on July 5 (“The Idiot’s Lantern”) from what I recollect was a single episode.
Do Space think that we’re all going to be out enjoying the long weekend? I don’t know about other parts of Canada, but where I am, if past weekends are to go by, Canada Day will be dry but there’ll be rain sometime during the weekend, that I would have been quite happy to sit in front of the t.v. and swoon over David Tennant!

In terms of the David Tennant episodes, I suspect Space will be devoting the day to an all-day marathon of something either TV or film, which is what they usually do on holidays.
I should say that the July 3 delay is probably because BBC America themselves are pre-empting. Generally speaking, BBC America have first broadcast rights in North America—so if BBC America delays, so too must Space.

As we discussed a couple weeks ago on Radio Free Skaro (a Doctor Who podcast based out of Canada), it looks as if BBC America has planned this schedule to coincide with Episode 13, The Big Bang, airing on Saturday, July 24 and the Saturday night at San Diego Comic-Con (don’t be surprised to see the Doctor Who stars and producers attending SDCC this year, as well). As a bit of promotion, you can’t beat that, really! Worth the delay in broadcast in order to get the maximum amount of attention.

It’s an old song, but worth repeating that even 4 weeks after the fact we’re still WAY much better off than we were under the CBC. We’d still be months away from broadcast if they were still in charge. It doesn’t surprise me because it is a holiday weekend and Space always puts on marathons of some kind during a holiday weekend. Except, it seems for the LAST holiday weekend which didn’t seem to have any theme or anything. Hopefully there’ll actually be a proper marathon this time. As for me, I’m travelling that weekend, so I’m actually ambivalent as to whether it airs then or not.
Oh, and on an unrelated note, they’ve announced the second of the DW games over in the UK. Not that any of us over here care anymore. I still say if they charge any more than $2.95 for the first game (especially given all the “it ain’t worth paying for” reviews we’ve seen over the past month) it’ll show they’re completely clueless.

So, like is Doctor Who coming back to CBC? If so, when? (I hope I haven’t missed it…)
