The Gang’s All Here…

image

...to see the Doctor, and the universe off. With Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Autons, the return of Rory, River Song and cameos from Winston Churchill, Liz Ten and Vincent Van Gogh, The Pandorica Opens was a lovely, small scale, quiet character piece, don’t you think?

Just joking. Leave your comments on the episode here (NO SPOILERS for next week’s finale!) and visit our TARDIS file.

who ever the real villain is, they must of had access to amy’s memory.

plus we still haven’t learned what “great man” river killed so her story isn’t over yet.

and what about amy will she live?

also did anyone notice the slimy sheen covering amy’s bed? prisoner zero?

if the pandorica opens from the inside, is it to be assumed that the doctor will break out?

why was there a cyberman there before the invasion? what was it there for? was its purpose to “assimilate” amy?

if the pandorica came from amy’s memories why and how did the doctor (and everyone else) know of it?

i dont actually remember the exact scene but i noticed that there was a time when the doctor was talking to amy or rory or someone else (again ,sorry, i forget the exact scene)  the twilight zone music was played.

and heres one last completely out of order observation: after the doctor told the daleks and co. that river was bringing the tardis to him, the white dalek (i think it was the white one) stated that “only the doctor can fly the tardis” (not looking at the journeys end scene in which the doctor and all of his companions were flying the tardis together and also ignoring the fact that rose was taught how to fly it by the doctor) does this imply that river is a time-lord or even more out there, the (future?) doctor?

Re: the photograph of Rory (as queried in the TARDIS File), that is actually addressed earlier in the episode when the Doctor is explaining to Amy the existence of the ring she found in his coat pocket. The Doctor mentions that although people can fall out of time, they can still leave traces of their existence, and specifically mentions photographs as an example of this. The ring of course is another one - which we saw back in Cold Blood when it wasn’t wiped out from existence either.

A Great episode but I did roll my eyes when the Daleks showed up. Yet another season finale with The Daleks…ho hum. Then again if you’re going to do a seen where most of the Doctor’s major enemies show up then you have to have the Daleks don’t you. Okay here’s spoiler for you….next year’s season finale feature’s The Daleks too. Remember you read it here first!

I enjoyed this episode, and I can’t remember the last time that happened with Steve Moffat writing the story. I loved the stories he wrote before this season, but since the “Eleventh Hour” I think his writing has been lacking. Still, I think he provided a creative, and particularly suspenseful episode this time around. I’m also relieved that the costumes from the last few seasons (the Sontarians, Cybermen) didn’t change, it keeps a level of constancy need for the show. Can’t wait for next week’s finale.

A strange thing has been happening here: fewer comments each week. Is interest in Doctor Who waning in Canada or has everyone decided to wait till next week’s finale before heading for their computer? (Hope it’s the latter).

As for this episode, nice and original. A cliff hanger of sorts without the Wagnerian choir in the background or the excessive fast pacing that characterised RTD’s year-end episodes. (Also no Captain Jack yet). Will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Must make one more and sadly negative comment about this episode. It is the weakest appearance yet for River Song. No witty comments with the Doctor. No revelations to tantalize the viewer. A very flat performance. No real character development at all. Disappointing!

How much more of River Song’s history do you want hints at? You know what she thinks of “spoilers”. She may/may not be the Doctor’s wife, she will be a future companion, and she causes the death of the Doctor. That’s enough for me right now, i doubt any more details will come out that are more fascinating than those listed. Besides, for once the episode had a decent story, written by Steven Moffat no less. And the acting was fine, if you ask me. Nothing big to complain about with this episode.

No time to do a proper review (but I will catch up eventually - and for last week’s The Lodger as well!)....but I have to say one thing:

I desperately want one of those Tardis-exploding ‘Van Gogh’ paintings!  smile

Ok I found another thing…. When river is in amys
house she says “oh doctor, why do I let you out”.
This could imply at least two things; A) river opens the pandorica and litteraly lets the doctor out.
Or, B) river is the doctors wife and is saying that in the sense Thad she regrets letting him out if the house and out to play. I could be wrong and I am known to be wrong occaisionaly but hey I am also know to see all the possibilities no matter how out there and iffy.

Deteriorating. How come it receives a lot of negative feedback already? Let the kids talk. They’re the main judge. But I was like kind of confused about who’s the real hero. Best picture for me anyway.
