Amy’s Choice is Canada’s Choice
Here’s one that I don’t think anyone was predicting - Space has announced that Doctor Who won it’s timeslot with the broadcast of Amy’s Choice on Saturday, June 5th. We’re not talking about just winning its timeslot against the other cable speciality channels - the episode won its timeslot over all other channels including conventional networks like CBC, CTV, Global etc. Helped of course by a lack of a Stanley Cup playoff game on that particular Saturday, but a win is a win, and when was the last time we could say that about a Doctor Who episode broadcast in Canada - on a speciality network to boot! Nearly 400,000 tuned in on Saturday night alone, and no doubt the subsequent Sunday broadcasts will have pushed the total viewing audience well over that mark.
In a word - wow!

Make that 400,002 - we were away on Saturday and watched a recording Sunday night.

Actually here’s a question. When a person records or PVR’s a program, does it get recognized in the “ratings”. I was out of town and PVR’d it and watched it Sunday night. It would be nice to know I helped contribute to the 400,000

Re: Doug. Unless you’re somehow magically connected to the “magic ratings box” I don’t know how your PVR-viewing can be counted. In the UK, however, they do in fact somehow manage to record this, so maybe it does.
Anyway, this is a nice piece of news. I’m sure someone’s going “but it’s only 400,000” but that’s still impressive. And, frankly, it doesn’t matter to me what the numbers are so long as Space is happy which means they keep running the thing. And maybe it might inspire them to steal Sarah Jane from BBC Kids and bring in the K-9 series, too. Or even start showing classic Who again, which would be fantastic.

I did a survey, 3 years ago where I actually filled out a booklet and it did allow me to know viewing on a DVR. Besides Space shows the new episode one once on Saturday night, then twice on Sunday.

Fantastic! (yes, that was intentional, if anyone actually remembers Nine).
I unfortunately did not contribute to those ratings, at the 10-11 pm timeslot here, it’s simply past my bedtime! I go for the much more sensible 8-9 pm Sunday evening broadcast.

I remember 9

^ Good for you Jimmy. Sometimes to me it feels with everyone rhapsodizing on about how wonderful Eleven is, and bemoaning how much they miss Ten that my favourite Doctor of all slips through the cracks. Hopefully the repeats of Series 1 have jogged people’s memory about Nine.

If it wasn’t for Doctor Nine, neither Ten nor Eleven would ever have made it to air. Chris set the tone and style for the new Doctor Who which is a much more mature and complete program than any of its predecessors.
