Doctor Who Blog

political analysis

My, Doctor Who is getting mentioned everwhere these days. The American political blog Kos talks about the political satire in Aliens of London and World War Three, calling these two stories a “spectacular allegory.”

There are plenty of spoilers after the sixth paragraph. If you’ve seen the stories, have a read to find out what the American left wing thinks of the show.

They also mention the “anti-xenophobic subtext of Carnival of Monsters,” and they call The Sunmakers “kafkaesque.”

Has anyone else picked up on the fact that this fourth episode states that the Doctor is only 900 years old, but in the McCoy episode “Time and the Rahni” the Doctor mensions that he is 953 just like the Rahni….

Don’t quite take in as “only” 900 years.  Reference is “in 900 years..”  The Rose asks if that means his age and he says yeah 900.  I didn’t see it as meaning the exact age.
What make less sense is at the end of Ep2, he says he has no money and Rose buys the chips.  At the beginning of Ep3, he is clearly paying the newsboy for a paper.

“It is a deceptively simplistic response, because it echoes the old Hindu philosophy of Destruction and Creation”.
“Russell T Davies is, consciously or unconsciously, well aware that we will soon be facing the reality-based equivalents to his foretold Destruction, and in writing Aliens of London and World War III, he has given us more than a superbly crafted Doctor Who story, but echoes from our own future”.

Cheez….I knew people took their Doctor Who seriously, but…...
