David Tennant to leave Doctor Who
Last Tuesday it was announced that David Tennant, who has been the Doctor since 2005, is leaving the role at the conclusion of the specials airing in 2009.
Tennant made the announcement live on stage at the National Television Awards. “When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won’t be with me,” he said.
During 2009, Doctor Who will be broadcast in special episodes to air at Christmas 2008, Easter 2009, Fall 2009 and Christmas 2009 (in what is rumoured to be a two-part story to air Christmas and New Years). These will be the last episodes to be written and produced by Russell T Davies, which Tennant has commented in interviews contributed to his decision to leave.
Series Five of Doctor Who will air in 2010 under new executive producer Steven Moffat and will now have a new (eleventh) Doctor as well.
