Alas no Doctor Who this evening.  Although I’m sure a number of people are tuning into the CBC for The Satan Pit only to be confronted with How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas! (the original 1966 animated version, thankfully).

Oh well.  Maybe we can take comfort in the fact that this animated favourite is set in WHOville, populated by those squirrelly little WHOs.

Doctor Who will return to the CBC on January the 15th.

I was looking up the CBC listings for the next Dr. Who and it seems there is one scheduled for January 8th at its regular time.  No listing though of the episode title.  Just thought that I would let everyone make a note of it.

I think the January 8th listing is just a default. There were similar default listings for December 25th and January 1st but as new and complete listings go up each week these defaults are replaced.

As anything is possible these days…  the word we’ve recieved from the CBC directly is that DW will return on the 15th.

If anything changes we will try and get the word out on the Blog, WWW.DWIN.ORG and a host of other outlets.

There is a certain resemblance between the Grinch and William Hartnell isn’t there?

Posted by Ryan  on  12/12  at  07:41 AM

Definitely. They should have updated the website and amde an announcement at the end of the episode. Most shows on other networks going off for the holidays had some sort of “last new episode” annoucenment. Let people know that it’s going off and they’ll watch for it to come back.

Not on topic, but I noticed that the new issue of Enlightenment has an article called “Doctor Who after Russell T Davies.”  Has he left the show?  Is there an official announcement or is it just rumour?

Posted by Jimmy  on  12/13  at  11:15 AM

The CBC now has “To Be Announced” listed for January 8th at 8pm.

Jimmy, the article is about a theoretical question than a practical one. Or at least I hope it is!

Thanks for the clarification, Graeme.  I guess it’s only a matter of time before RTD hands the reins to someone else, but you piqued my curiosity—I’ll have to buy the new issue!

Will there be a Dr. Who Christmas special this year, as there was last year? If the BBC is producing one, maybe CBC is slow off the mark in publicizing it.

Posted by Stephen P.  on  12/16  at  10:46 PM

Further to my last posting, the BBC Dr. Who website reports that a special Dr. Who episode, called “The Runaway Bride,” will be airing on Christmas Day. The CBC site makes no mention of it, as of today.

Posted by Stephen P.  on  12/16  at  10:54 PM

The CBC has purchased “The Runaway Bride” but have not yet scheduled it. It will likely air right after Series Two in February or (perhaps more likely) before Series Three later next year. It wouldn’t make much sense to air it at Christmas since they are still in the middle of Series Two and it would spoil the rest of the season for us.

Greetings and salutations to all my fellow Dr. Who fans worldwide. Happy Otherstide and Festival of Rassilon/Omega/The Other!

According to The History Of The Doctor Who Universe, in the History of Gallifrey section, it is mentioned that 2 holidays are (unofficially) celebrated on Gallifrey, Otherstide and the Festival of Rassilon/Omega/The Other.

Rassilon was the creator of the Timelord Society, Omega supplied the means for time travel by capturing a star that went supernova, unfortunately at the cost of his own life. Next to nothing is known about the third person of this Triumvirate called the Other. It is said that he shed his true identity and left Gallifrey for unknown reasons. Legends say that he wasn’t on the High Council and he may or may not have been born on Gallifrey. Speculation says that he may have left Gallifrey to become involved in the “action” as opposed to just sitting back and observing and doing nothing.

The above is my paraphrasing of said section on the Triumvirate.

I think one can presume that this was supposed to make us think that this mysterious “Other” is the Doctor. The pieces sort of fit. In War Games, the 2nd Doctor says he left the Timelord planet because he was bored. The Timelords had all these fantastic abilities and powers and just sat back and did nothing (this is a parallel to what caused strain for years between Hal Jordan and The Guardians of Oa). In a left out scene in Remembrance Of The Daleks, the 7th Doctor tells Davros that he is far more than just another Timelord.

I like to think that Otherstide and R.O.O. are around Earth’s Christmas. Whether I’m right or wrong, it doesn’t matter…to me it can be celebrated whenever you want and for however long you want.

Happy Otherstide and Festival R.O.O. !

Thank you Ray Currie for your insight into DW history and Happy Otherstide and Festival of R O O to you also.I would be pleased to read more of your thoughts and ideas. Do you have a vision of where the series is going or do just wait anxiously for it to continue as I do.
